In-Depth Cooking Events
If you’re ready to learn more about a particular cuisine, ingredient, or type of recipe, you’re ready to delve into a Boot Camp at The Chef’s Hat. The only pre-requisite for these in-depth events is a desire to learn and laugh, and a love of food.
French Country Cooking (3 days)
Experience a unique immersion into the cuisine of the French countryside. In this 3-day Boot Camp, you’ll get cooking techniques and recipes, as well as background on the wines and beer of the Bordeaux and Medoc regions of southern France. This is also the oyster capital of Europe, so take this opportunity to learn how to shuck them. You’ll get to try your hand as dishes such as Ratatouille with Fried Eggs, Roasted Duck Breasts, Filet Mignon with Cognac Sauce, Radishes with Salt and Champagne, Cherry and Peach Papillotes, and perhaps the best cake you have ever tasted.
You’ll sample the unique wines from this region, as well as French aperitifs from other regions. Also for fun, you’ll get some ideas and traveling tips for visiting this region of France on your own.
Mexican Hacienda (2 days)
Forget the Mexican tacos and burritos served at the chain restaurants. This Boot Camp is for you, if you want to impress your family and guests with true Mexican cooking. You’ll become best friends with a wide assortment of peppers—especially the versatile Poblano.
On the first day, we’ll prepare and eat breakfast, lunch, and dinner. On the second day, you’ll prepare our special Mexican recipes and mole sauce. Some of the recipes you’ll cook include Christmas Shrimp, Chorizo and Peppers Frittata, Stuffed Poblano Peppers (2 ways), Mole Rack of Lamb, and a special version of fish tacos. And what’s the point of a Mexican event without Margaritas? You’ll get to sample several different kinds, including our special Watermelon Margarita.
Florida Seafood Festival (1 day)
Does Grouper and Crabmeat Eggs Benedict sound appealing? Then we have a lot more to talk about and prepare. In this one-day Boot Camp, you’ll learn the secrets to Shrimp and Andouille Sausage with Grits—a dish you’ll make over and over again for your friends and family. Other fun recipes you’ll try include a Seafood Scramble and a Florida Trifle. You’ll also have a chance to enjoy some Florida cocktail recipes, along with beer and wine.
Never Be Short of Appetizer Ideas (1 day)
You’ll never be at a loss for first-course ideas to serve your guests or bring to someone else’s party with this one-day Boot Camp.
You’ll spend the day creating and eating what we prepare. Our menu includes quick prep appetizers, like the ultimate Shrimp Cocktail and Tomato-Basil-Provolone-Prosciutto Fingers, as well as more exotic recipes like Sausage Balls and Chalupas with Chorizo and Salsa. To get the full effect, you can wash it all down with beer and wine.
